How To Fix Faucet Handle At Home

how to fix faucet handleDo you have loose faucet handles at home? We hope not. But if you do, then there’s no need to worry at all because that’s normal! Over time, your faucet’s parts will eventually wear out, therefore loosening the connection until leaks occur or until the fixture already needs replacement. Now don’t panic because this plumbing problem is pretty easy to solve! Simply follow this DIY guide and you should fix your loose faucets in no time.

What You’ll Need:

* Allen Wrench

* Utility Knife

* Plumber’s Tape

* Screwdriver

1.   Detach your faucet’s handle. Most taps feature a plastic or metal button that’s located right at their center. In the case of tubs or sinks with double spouts, you should notice the letters “H” and “C” which stand for hot and cold. That’s where you’ll find the button.

2. Using your screwdriver or knife, lift this button up and pop it out. You will find a screw just behind that button which should also be removed.

3. Once the screw is removed, the handle will consequently fall off the stem. If you have a set screw, use your Allen Wrench to loosen it so that you can detach the tap handle.

4. Get your plumber’s tape and wrap it around the faucet stem. Cut it in a length that’s enough to cover the stem without overlapping. Wrap one tape at a time (you can use about three or four depending on your faucet), then install the handle back on and test the fitting. Repeat the process until the faucet handle sits tightly.

5. Once you have replaced the handle, you should also check the screw or the set screw. If there are pieces that are loose, replace them as well. For two-spout fixtures, make sure that the letters for hot and cold water are facing in the right direction.
